Option details

Skyliner (Keisei) — Recommended for Ueno

The Keisei Skyliner is the fastest and best-value option from Narita to Ueno — 41 min direct for ¥2,570. All seats reserved; luggage rack available. No transfer needed.

At Ueno Station you can connect to: JR Yamanote Line, Tokyo Metro Ginza Line (to Asakusa ~5 min), Hibiya Line, and more. The Skyliner + 24-hour Tokyo Metro pass (¥3,600 combined) is excellent value for sightseeing days.

Keisei Access Express — Recommended for Asakusa

The Access Express runs from Narita Airport through Oshiage (Tokyo Skytree) to Asakusa and on to Haneda Airport. No extra charge beyond the base fare (~¥1,050–1,200, ~70–75 min). From Oshiage, Asakusa is a short walk or one stop on the Asakusa Line.

This is the cheapest train option and great for visitors staying in the Asakusa / Skytree area.

Airport Bus TYO-NRT + subway

Airport Bus TYO-NRT goes to Tokyo Station for ~¥1,500. From Tokyo Station, the JR Keihin-Tohoku Line reaches Ueno in about 10 min (~¥150). Total cost ~¥1,650, but allow 90–120 min for highway traffic.

N'EX + Yamanote Line

N'EX does not stop at Ueno. You'd need to ride to Tokyo Station (~53 min, ¥3,070) then take the Yamanote or Keihin-Tohoku Line to Ueno (~10 min). Total ~70–80 min, ~¥3,270. Much more expensive than the Skyliner for no benefit — only worthwhile with a JR EAST PASS.

Taxi / hire car

Best for late-night arrivals. Ueno is closer than Shinjuku so taxi costs are a bit lower: ~¥15,000–20,000. Pre-book a flat-rate hire car for a fixed price.
